Introducing Exhibition Hundertwasser

Sue Shepherd, the official photographer for the Hundertwasser Wairau Māori Arts Centre project.

Sue’s interest in the Hundertwasser project began long before the final commitment to go ahead with the project.  From the very beginning, she was there capturing the fundraising and promotion of the concept in pictorial form for posterity. Then, once the building project began in earnest, she was right in there recording the drilling of the piles, laying of steel and concrete and more latterly tiling and brickwork, which are very much the trademark of Hundertwasser himself.

Throughout the project, she has focused on the human side of the story, capturing some amazing images of the skilled tradesmen bringing the project to life.  Some of the men on site had never really had a proper photograph taken of them before.

But Sue is not just a Hundertwasser photographer!  Over many years, she has devoted her fabulous photographic skills to supporting community projects on a purely volunteer basis.  Projects like:

Numerous Northland Hockey fundraisers and events.
The 2012 Olympic hockey campaign in London.
Te Hononga Hundertwasser style library and community centre in Kawakawa.
Numerous Opera North concerts, including Opera in the Garden.
Camera Obscura construction.
Numerous Northland Regional Council events;
plus other smaller events too numerous to mention.

Sue also has a fabulous collection of wildlife and landscape photographs taken on overseas trips with her husband to Africa, Europe, Eastern Europe, Greenland and the Arctic Circle, the UK and Turkey.  She is particularly proud of the images she took on photographic tours with top international photographers to Japan and Iceland.

This exhibition is but a small sample of Sue’s extraordinary photographic skills!
